Established by the Greenhalgh brothers in 1881 for the wellbeing of the surrounding community.
Thomas Greenhalgh a local mill owner insisted to the architects Paly and Austin that the church have no columns in the nave so that his 800 mill workers didn’t have an obstructed view of the pulpit and altar. It’s national historical significance to the nation is that it has the widest unsupported roof space for a parish church in England.
All Soul’s was vested into the care of the Churches Conservation Trust in 1987, following changes in the local community and a declining congregation, due to its historical significance.
